Self-Examination (Part 23)
Ears: Hearing And Doing
Therefore everyone who hears these Words of Mine and acts on Them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock.
Matthew 7:24 (NASB)
For it is not the hearers of the Law who are just before God, but the doers of the Law will be justified.

Romans 2:13 (NASB)
But prove yourselves doers of the Word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the Word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.

James 1:22-24 (NASB)
For they hear Your Words but they do not practice Them.

Ezekiel 33:32 (NASB)
An AMTC devotion reader asked my opinion on the question of guaranteed salvation for believers who truly profess Jesus as their Lord.* This seeking saint said he and some close friends were praying, debating and researching God's Word in their quest for enlightenment: an honorable and worthy pursuit. I hope all Christians will run that same course.

'Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus' (Philippians 3:13-14).

So like Paul and the other disciples, I think both faith and 'doing' are required. 'You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe--and tremble! But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?' (James 2:19-20).

Actors, models and talent for Christ: Hearing God's Word is a lovely thing. Doing His Word is a better thing.

Hear this thing. Demons dance on our roofs: the same roofs covering our churches. While inside sit stationary saints: the same saints who hear but do not do. Lounging like La-Z-Boy recliners in professional pews on Sunday doesn't make men doers of the Word.

Every gifted worldly performer, who has lasting industry success, practices his chosen profession. He studies scripts and goes to classes. He pursues his goal vigorously. He perseveres through many years.

Should we who profess Christ as our Goal do less than those who do not know Him?

You were chosen to be action stars. So be encouraged in your journey. You'll not only reach countless hopeful fans, you'll inspire Christians to rise as well.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
