Self-Examination (Part 26)
Nose: Fragrant Offerings
Mary then took a pound of very costly perfume of pure nard, and anointed the Feet of Jesus and wiped His Feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.

John 12:3 (NASB)
I am amply supplied, having received from Epaphroditus what you have sent, a fragrant aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God.

Philippians 4:18 (NASB)
Be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.

Ephesians 5:2 (NKJV)
When we imitate God as dear children, when we abide in Christ as family, when we study His Words as disciples, when we perform His Commands as servants, when we sweat as laborers in His fields, when we obey His Orders as soldiers, when we go forth as friendly ambassadors...

When we bear fruit as branches from the Vine, when we walk in love toward outsiders, when we forgive men as He forgave us, when we give our help to people in need, when we increase the talents He gave us, when we follow Him while others nestle...

When we deny our selfish ambitions, when we sacrifice our prized possessions, when we persevere through persecution, when we trust in His strength and not our own, when we invite strangers to dine with us, when we visit captives in confinement...

When we humble ourselves as Jesus did, when we act with genuine compassion, when we model the lifestyle He displayed, when we sing in notes of compelling truth, when we dance for the Lord with all our might, when we defer all glory back to Him, we radiate the aroma of Christ.

Because deodorant doesn't last long, even though the devil likes to sell it. Because perfume doesn't last long either, even though Satan profits from its use.

The scent of our lives will ooze from our pores. We can't even start to mask it from God, and all noses will sniff it soon enough.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: Let the river of Living Water keep you smelling like His newborn babes: a completely inviting fragrance. When you put Him on, it won't wear off. When men breathe deeply, your Father will smile.

'Thanks be to God, Who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place' (2 Corinthians 2:14).

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
