Self-Examination (Part 27)
Mouth: Your Receptionist
The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.
Proverbs 10:11 (NASB)
If saints are priests in God's New Testament,* if our bodies are flesh and blood temples,** if our hearts are spiritual throne rooms,*** if our minds are God's ruling offices,**** then our mouths are like our receptionists: controlling access to sacred places; welcoming or denying visitors; discerning those who are earnest seekers from demons dressed up to look like darlings.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: Your core job is communication. If your mouth is your receptionist, consider its working history:

1) Is it a lazy receptionist, lacking focus and babbling chit chat? Without wisdom and understanding, a saint is a poor ambassador, talking in a way the Lord did not. And if a saint doesn't rule his mouth, he's not serving God, but the devil: 'Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless' (James 1:26).

2) Is it a cruel receptionist, gossiping and accusing others? Without kindness, mercy and patience, a saint is a mean prosecutor, judging in a way the Lord did not. And if a saint doesn't talk in love, he's not serving God, but the devil: 'There is one who speaks like the piercings of a sword' (Proverbs 12:18). 'His mouth is full of curses and deceit and oppression; Under his tongue is mischief and wickedness' (Psalm 10:7).

3) Is it a stupid receptionist, missing homework and needing study? Without first-hand knowledge of God's Word, a saint becomes prey for the devil, falling in a way the Lord did not. And if a saint doesn't know His Voice, he's likely to follow false shepherds: 'You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire... When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies' (John 8:44).

4) Is it a godly receptionist, speaking life and rebuking evil? Under the guidance of God's Spirit, a saint welcomes seekers to his home while opposing demonic access, following the Words their Lord said first. 'Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve' ' (Luke 4:8). 'Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God' (2 Corinthians 10:5).

To Be Continued...

* 'You are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light' (1 Peter 2:9).

** 'Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit Who is in you, Whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?' (1 Corinthians 6:19).

*** 'So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God' (Ephesians 3:17-19).

**** 'But we have the Mind of Christ' (1 Corinthians 2:16).
