Self-Examination (Part 67)
Mind: Renewed Minds
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
Romans 12:2 (NASB)
Be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.

Ephesians 4:23-24 (NASB)
Put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the Image of Him Who created him.

Colossians 3:10 (NKJV)
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord's glory, are being transformed into His Image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, Who is the Spirit.

2 Corinthians 3:17-18 (NIV)
Actors, models and talent for Christ, to renew means to take up again: to restore, replenish or revive.* But if we confessed Christ as our Lord, if we became born again through Him, if we emerged from holy Baptism, if we asked our Lord for His Spirit to live in us and direct our paths...

Then why would our minds need renewal? If our minds could be called computers:

If our five senses receive data which enters our minds to become thoughts... if these thoughts harden or tenderize our hearts, which beat out our life's rhythm... if our mouths can't help but speak in time to the pattern our hearts establish... then our minds are like first responders.

And responding to a cruel world, a world that hits us in our soft spots, a world that shouts for our submission, a world that tempts us to buy its cons, a world that nails the best among us, a world that worships idolatry, a world that sacrifices its kids... This world can weary believing minds.

But God won't leave us in this poor state. He provides renewal Instructions and empowers our restoration. Consider this solid summary:

'The only way to replace the error of the world's way of thinking is to replace it with God's truth, and the only infallible source of God's truth is His revealed Word, the Bible. Transformation through renewed minds comes as believers expose themselves to God's Word through the faithful exposition of it each week in church, personal Bible study and group Bible study. A solid church that believes in preaching the Word, reading the Word and singing the Word is invaluable in helping us renew our minds.

There are no shortcuts. There is no magical formula for renewing our minds. We must fill our minds with God's Word. As Jesus prayed to the Father, 'Sanctify them in the truth; Your Word is Truth' (John 17:17).' **

** NOTE: I don't agree with 100% of their interpretations, but I love the large majority of their studies. They do an excellent job explaining and referencing many tough Bible topics with brevity.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
