Self-Examination (Part 72)
Judah, you are he whom your brothers shall praise; Your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies; Your father's children shall bow down before you.
Genesis 49:8 (NKJV)
So it was, when they brought out those kings to Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said to the captains of the men of war who went with him, 'Come near, put your feet on the necks of these kings.' And they drew near and put their feet on their necks.
Joshua 10:24 (NKJV)
You have also given me the necks of my enemies...
2 Samuel 22:41 (NKJV)
From iron neck rings to punishment collars, gripping chokeholds establish dominance. If you're able to control someone's neck, the passageway from the head to the heart, human life or death is in your power. Slavery is one tragic example.
In the Old Testament's righteous justice, God's chosen people were sometimes victors. But perhaps more often, they were captives, suffering punishment for arrogance and a disregard for their Creator.
Jesus introduced a new way to fight and an unprecedented way to win. It was in surrender and submission: not just to God but to human bullies. Because God appointed those bad rulers as a pathway to an end He ordains.
The end He ordains for beloved saints is life everlasting through Jesus Christ, Who allowed His Neck and Hands to be bound, Who allowed His Body's crucifixion, so God's power in Him would be revealed. Because His Neck was protected by God...
Even more, so He could become our Neck: the Passageway from His Head to God's Heart: the Way that can never, ever be crushed. The Breath of Life passes through Him to us and one day through death to higher life.
Actors, models and talent for Christ: Submit your neck to the Lord of Hosts. Submit your neck to earth's governors. Because in these holy submissions is ultimate freedom from bondage.
