Self-Examination (Part 79)
Shoulders: Sin Yokes
The yoke of my transgressions was bound;

They were woven together by His Hands,

And thrust upon my neck.

He made my strength fail;

The Lord delivered me into the hands of those whom I am not able to withstand.
Lamentations 1:14 (NKJV)
Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.
Galatians 5:1 (NKJV)
While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage.
2 Peter 2:19 (NKJV)
Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one's slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?
Romans 6:16 (NKJV)
When the truth becomes exaggeration, when freedom of choice becomes rebellion, when drinking becomes intoxication, when shopping becomes a fascination, when wealth becomes a preoccupation, when looking good becomes a fixation, when media becomes an obsession, when anything becomes an addiction...

When star-gazing becomes idolatry, when religion becomes rigidity, when dating becomes promiscuity, when pleasing becomes popularity, when dressing up becomes indecency, when nice stuff becomes our identity, when bad friends become our community, when the world becomes our reality...

The course of our lives is guided by sin.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: Where farming has no machinery and plowing is done by animals, their yokes are how masters control them.* Likewise, yokes of sin control men now.**

Because when we're tied to bad habits, God compares them to yokes of bondage. Therein, we're guided by the devil into pits, where great escapes are rare. So beware flirtations with danger and embrace the Great Deliverer.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
