Self-Examination (Part 86)
Shoulders: The Yoke Of Christ
I drew them with gentle cords,
With bands of love,
And I was to them as those who take the yoke from their neck.
I stooped and fed them.
Hosea 11:4 (NKJV)
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.
Matthew 11:28-30 (NKJV)
If everybody serves somebody, whether the master of worldly lies or the King of never-failing truth, whether of sins leading to bondage or virtue leading to liberty, then we have crucial choices to make:
1) Do we follow con men into traps marked by sugar cubes we grow to crave, or do we walk in faith behind Jesus, marked by life-filled Words that grow in us?
2) Do we strut in earthly confidence marked by positions and possessions, or do we move in humility, marked by the simplicity of Christ?
3) Do we groan from oppressive workloads marked by increasing desperation, or do we smile in jobs we enjoy, marked by increasing satisfaction?
Actors, models and talent for Christ: If you've already taken His yoke, great... but remember your next big step: 'Learn from Me' (Matthew 11:29), as in follow His lead. Because untrained oxen (or Christians) must learn how to plow their Master's fields. He's given you an Instruction Book and an incredible Example.
So don't remain baby believers who aren't wise enough to walk God's Lines. And don't believe one hour on Sundays can well prepare you to work for Him--nor rely on substitute teachers when the Lord wants to teach you Himself.
