You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so?
When Jesus came to earth, everything changed, including war's rules of engagement.* His Orders were revolutionary. They still are. Imagine loving your enemies and blessing your persecutors. Imagine walking like a lamb to the slaughter. Who ever heard of such a thing?
'Jesus said to him, 'Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword. Or do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels?' ' (Matthew 26:52-53).
But where's the justice?
Squarely in God's Hand. 'For You observe trouble and grief, to repay it by Your Hand. The helpless commits himself to You' (Psalm 10:14). Therein, 'Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, 'Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,' says the Lord' (Romans 12:19).
By God's promise, perps will pay on earth, in eternity or both. But to love when it's hard is the mark of a mature Christian or a small child.
Because 'Our struggle is not against flesh and blood' (Ephesians 6:12). To men, we are the Good News Patrol. How better to advertise the Kingdom of God?
To demons, we are warriors of light: 'Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you' (Luke 10:19).
Actors, models and talent for Christ: As God's Communication Task Force commissioned for such a time as this, you must know who your enemy is (Satan). And who he isn't (people). To them, your best calling cards are a disarming smile, an extraordinary heart and the wonder of showing love when others do not.
