Soldier's Orders (Part 17)
Redefined Safety
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me.
Psalm 23:4 (NKJV)
The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore.
Psalm 121:7-8 (NKJV)
Within the American church, I am grieved by our dominant desire for safety. While we're tightly tucked in protected pews, Christians are persecuted in China, crucified in Syria, kidnapped in Nigeria, hunted in Iraq and imprisoned in North Korea.

We want to be safe. But are we? 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for Me' (Matthew 25:45).

Consider God's opinion on religious rituals without righteous works: 'I hate, I despise your religious festivals; your assemblies are a stench to me. Even though you bring Me... offerings, I will not accept them... Away with the noise of your songs!' (Amos 5:21-23).

Actors, models and talent for Christ: I believe a Christian's greatest risk is not an evil world. It's disregard of a suffering people. That's called dereliction of duty. In wartime, the punishment is death. Because 'Faith without works is dead' (James 2:20).*

'I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will show you Whom you should fear: Fear Him Who, after He has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, fear Him!' (Luke 12:4-5).

So what should you do? You are God's 21st century communicators stationed in America: the worldwide center of communication. What do you think you should do? Perform! Rise on stages and screens. Go unto all nations with the Good News of Jesus Christ. 'Do the work of an evangelist' (2 Timothy 4:5).

God, not church, is your Safety Zone. By means of His Holy Spirit, your Protection travels with you. As Fire and Wind, He moves. Similarly, you must move. Therefore, 'Work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God Who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill His good purpose' (Philippians 2:12-13).

'It is one of the worst of errors to suppose that there is any other path of safety except that of duty' (Reverend James H. Aughey, Civil War hero).**

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
