As for the saints who are on the earth, 'They are the excellent ones, in whom is all My delight.'
'Oh when the saints go marching in,
When the saints go marching in,
Oh Lord I want to be in that number,
When the saints go marching in...' (Gospel hymn refrain made famous by Louis Armstrong)
The online dictionary defines a 'saint' as 'a person of great holiness, virtue, or benevolence.' I define a 'saint' as a child of the Most High God who serves Jesus Christ. Our Lord gives amazing benefits and blessings to His saints, but this designation carries significant responsibilities.
Given this name, what are the star qualities of a saint?
Goodness: 'Let Your saints rejoice in goodness' (2 Chronicles 6:41). But Jesus said, 'No one is good but One, that is, God' (Matthew 19:17). Therefore, the goodness you celebrate is God's--not yours. King David got it right when he said, 'I will tell of all Your marvelous works' (Psalm 9:1). Surely, entertainment is a 'show and tell' business.
But how can God's performers be 'good' in a 'bad' industry? When Jesus told His disciples to 'Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature' (Mark 16:15), He didn't exclude the lost or the prodigals. In fact, they appear to be His target audience:
'For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost' (Matthew 18:11). 'For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance' (Mark 2:17). You are in the right place at the right time.
And never forget, God equips His saints in the land of temptation.
You put on the 'Armor of light' (Romans 13:12), because 'All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work' (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
'They said, 'Let us rise up and build.' Then they set their hands to this good work' (Nehemiah 2:18). You, too, should be 'Well reported for good works' (1 Timothy 5:10).
So, act 'good'--especially off stage. The world will see 'The righteous acts of the saints' (Revelation 19:8).
Therein is stage name #11: Saint, along with saintly star quality #1, goodness.
