But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.
You were slain, and have redeemed us to God by Your blood out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation, and have made us kings and priests to our God.
Most of us don't feel like priests. But Jesus has redeemed us, and 'The Father Who has qualified us' (Colossians 1:12) calls us priests; it's a stage name, a duty, and a birthright: 'The inheritance of the saints in the light' (Colossians 1:12).
All true believers are now 'Kings and priests unto God' (Revelation 1:6). 'As priests they have free access into the holiest of all, and offer up the sacrifices of praise and thanksgiving, and the sacrifices of grateful service from day to day' (Easton's Bible Dictionary).
Offering up sacrifices of praise, thanksgiving, and grateful service on earth makes us preachers; 'And the gospel must first be preached to all the nations' (Mark 13:10).
Consider God's 21st century preacher-army to be actors, models, and talent for Christ. Consider preaching to be our performances--especially off stage. Consider the massive communication web that covers our earth. Consider the public's fascination with celebrities. God has a plan.
Given this name, what are the star qualities of a priest?
1) Nearness to God: 'Then the priests, the sons of Levi, shall come near, for the Lord your God has chosen them to minister to Him and to bless in the Name of the Lord' (Deuteronomy 21:5)--'And their voice was heard; and their prayer came up to His holy dwelling place, to Heaven' (2 Chronicles 30:27). Priest-performers: God hears your prayers.
2) Gifted communication: If the thought of speaking a sermon gives you dread, don't speak it. Live it. 'Preach the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words' (St. Francis of Assisi). As an actor, you have an advantage. Consider the Apostle Paul's success: 'To the weak I became as weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some' (1 Corinthians 9:22).
'For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power' (1 Corinthians 4:20).
Therein is stage name #5: Priest.
