Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him Who loved us.
And I looked, and behold, a white horse. He who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer.
I grew up fearful, or perhaps I should say 'shy-sharp.' I was afraid of failure most of all, and I worked very hard to prevent it. Even so, failure is inevitable for anyone living outside of God's Word. But here's the good news: success is inevitable for anyone living inside God's Word.
'But thanks be to God, Who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ' (1 Corinthians 15:57).
Believing in our name of 'conqueror' requires believing God: 'And this is the victory that has overcome the world--our faith' (1 John 5:4). But what are we conquering? The enemy, Satan. Plus his devices.
Chief among his devices are lies, 'For he is a liar and the father of it' (John 8:44). With our 'Understanding darkened' (Ephesians 4:18) by lies, he leads us into temptations and delivers us to evil. His goal is our enslavement, our misery, and our death.
But God says, 'You shall conquer' (Deuteronomy 7:2).
Given this name, what are the star qualities of a conqueror?
1) Fearlessness: Since 'Perfect love casts out fear' (1 John 4:18), you 'Walk in love' (Ephesians 5:2) through the mission field of entertainment. 'Therefore do not fear them' (Matthew 10:26), 'For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by Whom we cry out, 'Abba, Father' ' (Romans 8:15).
2) Battle savvy: 'I have raised him up in righteousness, and I will direct all his ways; He shall build My city and let My exiles go free, not for price nor reward,' says the Lord of hosts' (Isaiah 45:13). So, put on the 'Armor of God' (see Ephesians 6:10-18), learn the enemy's devices (see 2 Corinthians 2:11), and trust in the Lord.
3) Victory over enemies: When Jesus 'Ascended on high, He led captivity captive, and gave gifts to men' (Ephesians 4:8). Your gifts include a guaranteed victory. 'I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you' (Luke 10:19). That spells victory.
