Strangers In Hollywood (Part 2)
Lessons from Daniel: God Habits
And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days.
Daniel 6:10 (NKJV)
At this point in the story of Daniel, he is a distinguished old man. Taken as a boy to Babylon, Daniel is now between 80 and 100 years old. Once again, he is chased by jealous government officials who 'Make a firm decree, that whoever petitions any god or man for thirty days... shall be cast into the den of lions' (Daniel 6:7).

Nevertheless, Daniel follows the God habits he has practiced since his youth: He prays and gives 'Thanks before his God'. Jesus Christ also followed God habits: 'And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day' (Luke 4:16).

Every hero of God will be tempted to abandon the Living God to worship 'The god of this age' (2 Corinthians 4:4). To avoid failing hard tests, you must study for them. How? Practice God habits, including:

1) Prayer: 'Pray without ceasing' (1 Thessalonians 5:17). When Jesus says, 'Give us this day our daily bread' (Matthew 6:11), He emphasizes the need for daily communion with God.

2) Scripture: 'Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me' (John 15:4). Living in the Word of God is a star-maker.

3) Fellowship: 'Not forsaking the assembling of {yourselves} together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the day approaching' (Hebrews 10:25).

Peter put it this way: 'Honor all people. Love the brotherhood' (1 Peter 2:17). You need accountability partners. 'As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend' (Proverbs 27:17).

If Daniel hadn't practiced God habits, he may have been tricked into abandoning his Lord at the moments of greatest need. Surely, many of today's stars seem to have done just that. Therefore, plan to ace your exams like Daniel did. Study for them.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
