Strangers In Hollywood (Part 8)
Lessons from Daniel: Fiery Trials
Then these men were bound in their coats, their trousers, their turbans, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. Therefore, because the king's command was urgent, and the furnace exceedingly hot, the flame of the fire killed those men who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.
Daniel 3:21-23 (NKJV)
The stars of Law & Order, Boston Legal, and The Good Wife enjoy fiery trials. Not so for God's stars, because our fires aren't phony. Even more, the choices we make when flames surround us define our lives.

Bad Choice #1) We run away from fiery trials and let others face the heat. This is a coward's choice. God will not promote cowards.

'Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go' (Joshua 1:9).

Bad Choice #2) We ignore fiery trials. But turning our backs doesn't make them go away, and they will catch us unprepared. God will not promote the unprepared.

'Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you' (1 Peter 4:12).

Bad Choice #3) We compromise or surrender to opposing forces who stand ready with a water hose. But this isn't holy water, and the Fire Marshall is God. He allows fiery trials for a purpose. God will not promote deserters.

'I will bring the one-third through the fire, will refine them as silver is refined, and test them as gold is tested. They will call on My Name, and I will answer them. I will say, 'This is My people'; And each one will say, 'The Lord is my God' ' (Zechariah 13:9).

The Good Choice: Do what Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego did. Walk through your fiery trials in faith.

'I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God' (Daniel 3:25). God will be with you, and you will not be harmed.

Actors, models, and talent for Christ: expect fiery trials in this mission field of epochal influence. Through a dazzling display of light, God within you 'Will be revealed by fire' (1 Corinthians 3:13). You will survive, and you will thrive.

Even better, so will countless others who follow you.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
