Success Strategies: Excellence
And in all matters of wisdom and understanding about which the king examined them, he found them ten times better than all... who were in all his realm.
Daniel 1:20 (NKJV)
Then this Daniel distinguished himself above the governors and satraps, because an excellent Spirit was in him; and the king gave thought to setting him over the whole realm.
Daniel 6:3 (NKJV)
Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings.
Proverbs 22:29 (NKJV)
We serve a God of 'Excellent greatness' (Psalm 150:2, NKJV). 'He has done excellent things' (Isaiah 12:5, NKJV). 'He is excellent in power, in judgment and abundant justice' (Job 37:23, NKJV).

He set the standard of excellence, and we are to reach for Him and it. How? Like Paul:

'Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus' (Philippians 3:12-14, NKJV).

We press on. We press forward. We reach up, and He reaches down. We practice, and God perfects us. He makes us excellent!

Consider Daniel and his friends in Babylon. Their mission? To rise in a foreign culture filled with idol worship. It ruled the world at that time. Upon examination, the king describes these young men of God as 'Ten times better' (Daniel 1:20, NKJV) than the locals.

Consider actors, models and talent for Christ in Hollywood. Their mission? To rise in a foreign culture filled with idol worship. It rules the world at this time. Upon examination, will its kings find them ten times better than 'the locals'?

Only by excellence in performance--as well as character. Therein, excellence is a success strategy.*

## Success Strategies: Excellence (Part 30)

* 'I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me' (1 Corinthians 15:10).

NOTE: This series is a republished edit of a 2013 devotion series called, 'Success Strategies.' You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you're not a performer, don't be deterred. In truth, every disciple acts for Christ, models Christ and stewards His talents.

P.S. To read the other devotions in this series, please see the Success Strategies series.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
