Success Strategies: Inner Peace
Peace to you.
Luke 24:36 (NKJV)
Peace to you.
John 20:21 (NKJV)
Peace to you.
John 20:26 (NKJV)
Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
John 14:27 (NKJV)
Consider these words by Charles Spurgeon,* one of the 19th century's great preachers:

'I find myself frequently depressed--perhaps more so than any other person here. And I find no better cure for that depression than to trust in the Lord with all my heart, and seek to realize afresh the power of the peace-speaking Blood of Jesus, and His infinite love in dying upon the cross to put away all my transgressions.' And more:

'Great thoughts of your sin alone will drive you to despair; but great thoughts of Christ will pilot you into the haven of peace.'

Have you suffered from depression, anxiety or a troubled soul? As a Christian, do you doubt your walk with God based on these afflictions? Do not be deceived.

You're in good company! Satan will not leave us alone this side of Heaven. The greater threat you may pose to his plans, the greater attacks he may send to your peace.

After a mighty victory, the prophet Elijah sunk into depression: 'It is enough! Now, Lord, take my life, for I am no better than my fathers' (1 Kings 19:4, NKJV).

The Psalms reveal King David's battles with despair: 'I am feeble and utterly crushed; I groan in anguish of heart' (Psalm 38:8, NIV).

Even Jesus was afflicted: 'My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death' (Mark 14:34, NKJV).

Contrary to modern opinions, the path to peace is not pills. Consider this prescription by Watchman Nee, a Christian leader from China. He spent the last 20 years of his life imprisoned for his faith.**

'The believer should assail the lies of the evil spirits. Every suggestion from the enemy must be met resolutely with the truth of the Bible. Answer doubts with the texts of faith; respond to despair with words of hope; reply to fear with words of peace. If he does not know the appropriate verse, let him pray for direction. Victory is obtained by wielding the Sword of the Spirit.'

Both God and man promote people of inner peace. Therein, inner peace is a success strategy.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
