Success Strategies: Obedience
If you love Me, keep My Commandments.
John 14:15 (NKJV)
But why do you call Me 'Lord, Lord,' and not do the things which I say?
Luke 6:46 (NKJV)
Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of Heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in Heaven.
Matthew 7:21 (NKJV)
Regarding the obedience of 21st century Christians in conveniently Christian nations, I am gravely concerned. Yes, gravely--as in life or death.

I fear we are selectively obedient: like choosing our favorite Verses. Or allowing a pastor to choose Them for us. Because of time limitations (30 minutes once a week) and money obligations (church buildings, bills and salaries), many modern pastors focus on easy lessons...

But the Word of God isn't easy.*

Because the Word of God is Jesus: 'And the Word became Flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only Begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth' (John 1:14, NKJV).

Obedience isn't easy either. Every kid knows that. But when we grow up, get a house and make our own rules, is obedience the dust we brush from our feet at our doorsteps?

I am not perfectly obedient, but I continue to try--and I continue read His Word. With extraordinary patience and gentleness, God perfects me. He perfects us all by the perfect Law of liberty, which is His Word.

'But he who looks into the perfect Law of liberty and continues in It, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does' (James 1:25, NKJV).

I implore every actor, model and talent for Christ: Do not limit your immersion in God's Word to this devotion or any sermon at any church. They're not enough. Read the Word of God in Its full form: Verse by Verse--in context.

One Chapter, one page, a half of a page. Doesn't matter. But this habit DOES matter. What can you expect? Personal revelation. God will speak to you: to your needs and to your heart.

Obedience makes a lot more sense when a relationship is loving and personal.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
