Then the Kingdom of Heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept.
And at midnight a cry was heard: 'Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!' Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' But the wise answered, saying, 'No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.' And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut.
Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, 'Lord, Lord, open to us!' But he answered and said, 'Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.'
Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.*
I like the Boy Scout oath, law, slogan, code, and especially motto: 'Be prepared!' Regardless of recent challenges, this organization was founded in God.**
I love the Words of Jesus Christ: 'Be dressed in readiness, and keep your lamps lit' (Luke 12:35, NASB).*** Regardless of cultural challenges, Christians must live in God. 'You too, be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour that you do not expect' (Luke 12:40, NASB).
I respect Hollywood stars, like Will Smith: 'I've never viewed myself as particularly talented... Where I excel is work ethic. While the other guy is sleeping, I'm working. While the other guy is eating, I'm working' (TV interview).****
To succeed in the entertainment industry, you must be prepared: 'Luck is where opportunity meets preparation' (Denzel Washington).
To succeed in the Kingdom of God, you must be prepared. The Parable of the Wise and Foolish Virgins reminds us to live in a state of readiness for Christ's arrival. How? Read and re-read the Gospels. Follow His Commandments.
Do not allow anyone or anything to quench the fire of the Holy Spirit within you. 'For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the Gift of God' (2 Timothy 1:6, NIV).
Both God and Hollywood promote people of preparedness. Therein, preparedness is a success strategy.
