These last men have worked only one hour, and you made them equal to us who have borne the burden and the heat of the day.
Matthew 20:12 (NKJV)
In the 'Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard' (Matthew 20:1-16), Jesus tells a story of supernatural promotion. Workers in the field for one hour receive the same wages as those who worked all day. This favor seems to be falling on many AMTC grads.
Actors, models, and talent for Christ have labored in the hot field of entertainment a relatively short amount of time. By comparison, consider the course of Jenna Fischer from 'The Office.' Following is an excerpt from a blog about her acting career:
'I didn't know anyone when I moved to LA. Most people don't. I shared an apartment with an old college buddy. He had a commercial agent and I was sure that by knowing him, this agent would take me on. She didn't... (It took Jenna two years to get an agent)...
'This Spring marked my 12-year anniversary in Los Angeles. I didn't land the part of Pam on The Office until year 8. I'm hardly an overnight success. Likewise, Rainn Wilson toured the country doing theater and was one of those working but unrecognized actors for over 10 years.
'Steve Carell had been kicking around for close to 20 years. Most of us on The Office have a story like that. I think that is one of the reasons why we are all so very, very grateful to have landed such a wonderful job.' (Jenna's complete blog is posted in amtconline.)
Here's the thing: In my 30 years of managing AMTC, I can't remember one grad going to a major market without an open door or offer in hand. Sure, they worked hard, and not everyone became big stars. But no one I know has a story like Jenna's--a story like almost everyone else's. Conclusion: God is supernaturally promoting His people.
Why? 'For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness the people' (Isaiah 60:2). We're in desperate times. Millions of children are losing their innocence and even their lives by copying the examples of today's wandering stars. Therefore, God is bringing up His own stars:
'But the Lord will arise over you, and His glory will be seen upon you. The Gentiles shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising' (Isaiah 60:2-3).
The kings of entertainment are promoting God's people. Even stars who are publicly Christian, like Tim Tebow, Justin Bieber, Scotty McCreery, Sherri Shepherd, and AMTC's country-singing star, Chris Young.
These stars know their place; they're stand-ins, chips off the Rock Star Who rolled the stone away from death.
Therefore, you who are His stars in the making: hold your course and be patient; become rock and role models for lost eyes, and thank God for supernatural promotion.
