The Biggest Loser
For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.
Luke 9:24 (KJV)
Let's be the biggest losers. Let's enter the Kingdom of God--both on this earth and beyond it. It's God's perfect irony, a divine mystery, a blessed redemption that we must lose our sinful lives to gain our godly lives. We win victory in defeat.

That's what being born again is all about.

When we surrender to Jesus, the Holy Spirit takes up residence. Yet His takeover is not sudden. It is incremental, and God allows us to set the pace. Thus, we walk strongly, firmly, and wholeheartedly in our desire to become the biggest loser.

To gain momentum, we must us cast off excess weight by losing the selfishness, jealousy, pride, anger, and unforgiveness. We must lose the wrong life to gain the right life. The quicker the pace, the more exciting the race.

Better than any television coach, we have the Supreme Coach: God Himself in the Holy Spirit. We also have cheering fans: His Heavenly Hosts.

'Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us' (Hebrews 12:1).

Therein, we become fit for stardom.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
