The Bread Of Life: Luke 11:1-13 (Part 6)
Leaving God's Table
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
Luke 11:4 (NKJV)
Temptations surround us, and the evil one behind them is Satan. Thankfully, God helps us get through them: 'Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me' (Psalm 23:4).

God also teaches us how to fight: 'Blessed be the Lord my Rock, Who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle' (Psalm 144:1). Surely, boot camp for every Christian should include instruction in spiritual warfare.*

To avoid the fight, we must avoid the temptation. 'Depart from evil' (Proverbs 3:7). 'Flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness' (2 Timothy 2:22). 'Abstain from every form of evil' (1 Thessalonians 5:22). 'Remove your foot from evil' (Proverbs 4:27). 'Let him turn away from evil and do good' (1 Peter 3:11).

But sometimes we go there accidentally, or even on purpose--as in God's purpose. It's called the Great Commission. Entertainment is a battlefield, and His performers are soldiers. Jesus explains further: 'I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one' (John 17:15).

So how does God keep us from the evil one? Defensive armor, offensive weaponry, fellowship with believers, and shelter.** But the most fundamental protection for every believer is consistent communion with God: 'Give us day by day our daily bread' (Luke 11:3).

Consider a field worker: he eats with his family, goes off to the field, and comes home each night. It's the same for God's workers in entertainment.

They eat with their family for fellowship, go off to the field of media, and come home each day to dine with Dad. That's called communion--and it is essential.

*Many excellent books focus on God's Word regarding spiritual warfare. Among them are 'Spiritual Warfare' and 'They Shall Expel Demons' by Derek Prince.

Many excellent websites contain spiritual warfare Scriptures, including:,,

**Defensive and offensive weaponry. See Ephesians 6:10-18:

Fellowship with believers. See Matthew 18:20 (NKJV): 'For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.'

Shelter: See 2 Samuel 22:3-4 (NKJV):

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
