The Call To Overcome: Feeling Unqualified?*
Now the Word of the Lord came to me saying,

'Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
And before you were born I consecrated you;
I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.'
Then I said, 'Alas, Lord God!
Behold, I do not know how to speak,
Because I am a youth.'
But the Lord said to me,
'Do not say, 'I am a youth,'
Because everywhere I send you, you shall go,
And all that I command you, you shall speak.
Do not be afraid of them,
For I am with you to deliver you,' declares the Lord.

'Now, gird up your loins and arise, and speak to them all which I command you. Do not be dismayed before them, or I will dismay you before them. Now behold, I have made you today as a fortified city and as a pillar of iron and as walls of bronze against the whole land... They will fight against you, but they will not overcome you, for I am with you to deliver you,' declares the Lord.
Jeremiah 1:4-8, 17-19 (NASB)
When God called Jeremiah, Jeremiah saw himself as young, insignificant and unqualified.

When God called David, Samuel saw him as young, insignificant and unqualified.

But they weren't, and you aren't: 'Your troops will be willing on your day of battle. Arrayed in holy splendor, your young men will come to you like dew from the morning's womb' (Psalm 110:3, NIV).

When God called Abraham, he was old, settled and unqualified.

When God called Moses, he was old, frightened and unqualified.

'Moses said to the Lord, 'Pardon your servant... I am slow of speech and tongue' ' (Exodus 4:10, NIV). But Abraham and Moses weren't too old.

Neither was Caleb at the age of 85: 'As yet I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me; just as my strength was then, so now is my strength for war, both for going out and for coming in. Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the Lord spoke in that day' (Joshua 14:11-12, NKJV).

When Jesus called His disciples, they were humble men. They weren't priests, scholars or world leaders, but they surpassed all of earth's men who were. Because God qualified them.**

Actors, models and talent for Christ: By Jesus, you are qualified. By your talent, you are qualified. By your humility and your heart, you are qualified. Your age is an asset. Your calling is significant. Your quality is pure gold from the King's bank.

The prince of the power of the air will not overcome you, but you will overcome him. You will climb the mountains of media in numbers so significant that its reigning kings will welcome you--for reasons they do not fully understand... yet. ***

## The Call To Overcome: Feeling Unqualified? (Part 5)

* Prior Devotion called 'Unqualified':

** 'God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong, and the base things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are, so that no man may boast before God' (1 Corinthians 1:27-29, NIV).

*** 'Nations will come to your light and kings to the brightness of your rising' (Isaiah 60:3, NASB).

NOTE: This is a republished edit of a 2014 devotion series, 'The Call To Overcome.' You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you're not a performer, don't be deterred. In truth, every disciple acts for Christ, models Christ and stewards His talents.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
