The Chain Of Command (Part 2)
The Lord has established His throne in the heavens, and His sovereignty rules over all.
Psalm 103:19 (NAS)
Our Lord is above all gods.
Psalm 135:5 (NAS)
For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is no one like Me, declaring the end from the beginning
Isaiah 46:9-10 (NAS)
Then I heard something like the voice of a great multitude and like the sound of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, saying, 'Hallelujah! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns.'
Revelation 19:6 (NAS)
God is the Absolute Power of the universe: the Creator of Heaven and Earth. In the Old Testament, God is called Yahweh 6519 times. Yahweh (spelled YHWH in biblical Hebrew) means the 'eternal, self-existent 'I AM' Who brings all things into being; Master; Sovereign Ruler.'
God is The Boss, 'The God of gods and the Lord of lords, the Great, the Mighty, and the Awesome God' (Deuteronomy 10:17). He is the Commander in Chief. 'There is no other besides Him' (Deuteronomy 4:35).
But some time ago, God endured a mutiny in Heaven. A chief angel, Satan, gathered support and attempted a power play. He lost big. God exiled the revolting angels to Earth, and the heavenly hosts were divided: good guys on top, bad guys on bottom.
A power play moved here, and God gave Satan temporary authority. His reason is hard to understand.
'For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts' (Isaiah 55:9). It is enough to know that 'God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose' (Romans 8:28); His good surely comes.
In the fullness of time, the Ultimate Good came to Earth. His Name was Jesus, and He chose to walk among us. A new power play began that would change everything.
For 33 years, God's Son wore a cloak of humility. Satan could not see His plan. Once uncovered at the cross, His plan was exposed. So was His glory. The Light was blinding, and Satan was powerless against it. 'The great dragon' (Revelation 12:9) was bound by His might and overshadowed by His height.
Then God lifted us. Jesus shared His unassailable position of authority with His followers--by means of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is the Invisible Agent of the 'Invisible God' (Colossians 1:15), known only to disciples of The Christ. He's like a Force Field from Star Trek and a Light Sword from Star Wars. God protects and empowers us. Mystery meets media.
While Satan's reign of terror draws to God's end, our King has given us a place of prominence in Earth's chain of command.
