The Chain Of Command (Part 7)
The Winning Word
Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, 'If you abide in My Word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.'
John 8:31-32 (NKJV)
Away with you, Satan! For it is written...
Matthew 4:10 (NKJV)
In His Gospels Jesus quotes the Old Testament between 78 and 84 times, depending on whom you're asking. He uses God's Word to educate people, to correct hypocrites and to fight evil. He often precedes a verse with this phrase, 'It is written.' By it, He puts the listener on notice: the infallible Word of God is coming.

'Infallible' means 'unfailing in effectiveness or operation; certain' (Random House Dictionary). Without a doubt, God's Word will move you. It will teach you, guide you, lift you, humble you or defend you--depending on your circumstance. It will transform both you and those who hear It.

'So shall My Word be that goes forth from My Mouth; It shall not return to Me void, but It shall accomplish what I please, and It shall prosper in the thing for which I sent It' (Isaiah 55:11).

In the New Testament, God's Word came alive to us in the form of a Man named Jesus. Through Him and His disciples, His written Word grew--giving His children unprecedented power and a great commission.

If I had to choose one life verse, it would be John 8:31-32: 'If you abide in My Word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.'

If I had to choose one Psalm, it would be Psalm 119: the long one. The NKJV calls it 'Meditations on the Excellencies of the Word of God.'

If I was allowed to choose my own epitaph, it would be this one: 'The Bible is true: every Word. By It, by Him, we live.'

Regarding the battle in which every person on Earth is knowingly or unknowingly engaged, consider The Word of God to be your best defensive and offensive Weapon. Actors, models and talent for Christ: learn your lines. (Or if you're like me, write them on cue cards).

Following are a few mouthfuls of Power--with links to more at this devotion's conclusion:

'I will call upon the Lord, Who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies' (2 Samuel 22:4).

'Thanks be to God, Who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ' (1 Corinthians 15:57).

' 'No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me,' says the Lord' (Isaiah 54:17).

'You shall not fear them, for the Lord your God shall fight for you' (Deuteronomy 3:22).
