Hallowed be Thy Name.
OMG is a YouTube Channel and a TV show. OMG is retailer who sells nice guitar straps. OMG is a Disney Nerds book series on magic. OMG is a sensual San Francisco night club. OMG is an Usher song about a hot dancer.
OMG is a trivialization of God's Name. I hear animated Christians shout out it frequently. But they're not praising or calling on God when they say it. At best, it's an expression of surprise or amazement. At worst, it's an intentionally irreverent pop.
When the world trivializes God, it's just ignorance, and we're not called to condemn those who don't know Who we know. But when Christians trivialize God, it's just not okay. And when we hear it, we're called to give gentle correction.
Actors, models and talent for Christ: The Lord cannot be marginalized. He's not a sideline in our stories. He's not a closed Book on our tables. He's not two hours in our busy weeks. He's not a few prayers we hardly feel. He's not petty cash thrown in a plate.
He's not in media's flippancy, because the one flipped will not be God.
'That at the Name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father' (Philippians 2:10-11).
