The Enemy's Game (Part 34)
Tactics: Wrath
Be angry, and do not sin: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil.
Ephesians 4:26-27 (NKJV)
Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; Do not fret--it only causes harm.
Psalm 37:8 (NKJV)
For the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.
James 1:20 (NKJV)
I grew up angry. Little Carey threw tantrums at will. As a teen, I hid my anger, but stewed in resentment. As an adult, my outbursts turned into a raging fire. My mouth became a sword from hell, cutting down my targets.*

Almost always, I felt justified in my discontent. But discontent attracts some bad company, like complaint. Complaint has kin, including a big brother named anger. Complaint and anger like to call their crazy cousin, wrath.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: An angry field is the devil's ground. Satan coaches a team of demons. Consider his offensive starters:

Idolatry's the quarterback, and witchcraft the center.
Jealousy and envy guard, while drunkenness plays tight end.
Selfish ambitions fight for the ball as wide receivers.
Dissensions and factions run around the field as fullbacks.
Outbursts of anger and disputes are merciless tackles.**

Angers, models and talent for Christ: This is the game you must play and win. A media team of saints now rise. God owns it and His Spirit coaches. Your Quarterback is Jesus Himself. The rest of your undefeated team?

Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.***

To Be Continued...

* As a new creation in Christ, I'd like to say old Carey is dead and buried. If she is dead (I choose to believe she is), then my lifeless corpse rises from the grave on too many occasions. I am a transformation in progress.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
