The Enemy's Game: Tactics--Impersonation
Woe to the foolish prophets, who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing?... They have envisioned futility and false divination, saying, 'Thus says the Lord?' But the Lord has not sent them... They have seduced My people, saying, 'Peace!' when there is no peace.
Ezekiel 13:3,6,10 (NKJV)*
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness. Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.
Matthew 23:27-28 (NKJV)**
If Old Testament prophets spoke on behalf of the Almighty God, If New Testament saints host and represent the Person of Jesus, then false prophets and phony saints are guilty of im-Personation: trying to act like our Lord when their lord is completely different.
'No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. Therefore, it is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their deeds' (2 Corinthians 11:14-15, NASB).
Consider one funny thing about entertainment celebrities, one thing practiced by its most badly behaved and provocative stars, one thing that could bring them closer to God than some well-known church leaders:
They're honest about their sins (and fake righteousness is loathsome to God).
To the outwardly religious chief priests and elders, Jesus declared: 'Truly I say to you that the tax collectors and prostitutes will get into the kingdom of God before you' (Matthew 21:31, NASB).
Actors, models and talent for Christ: beware Christian impersonators: the ones who don't practice what they preach. They know Scripture, but so does Satan. Without heart, their acts won't make God's cut.
When the church production lights turn off, when the crowds aren't pressing around them, when they think no patron is watching, do you see the fruits of God's Spirit? If not, proceed to exit stage right.
At the same time, learn from their mistakes. Don't be tempted by Hollywood glitz. Impersonation is for actors. But the rest of the time, keep it real.
