The Enemy's Game: Tactics--Pursuit
The wicked strut about on every side when vileness is exalted among the sons of men.
Psalm 12:8 (NASB)
Our pursuers were swifter

Than the eagles of the sky;

They chased us on the mountains,

They waited in ambush for us in the wilderness.
Lamentations 4:19 (NASB)
We have to pay for our drinking water,

Our wood comes to us at a price.

Our pursuers are at our necks;

We are worn out, there is no rest for us.
Lamentations 5:4-5 (NASB)
So all these curses shall come on you and pursue you and overtake you until you are destroyed, because you would not obey the Lord your God by keeping His Commandments and His Statutes which He commanded you.
Deuteronomy 28:45 (NASB)
The enemy's pursuit is very real for all the people outside of his camp. Believers can feel the serpent's hot breath. They can see his claws coming toward them.

In fulfillment of ancient prophesy, we now pay dearly for water and wood.

Evil struts and vileness is exalted. Nevertheless, let's refuse to condemn street-walking addicts or smut-talking stars. Instead, we must Cross-examine ourselves.

Are we modern-day scribes and Pharisees?

Are we too concerned with rules and comforts to study and follow God's Example? How many of us resemble Jesus? Is He better seen among prisoners of faith in North Korea or Iran?

Actors, models and talent for Christ: where do these speculations leave you? Perhaps considering your brethren. Perhaps being chased by Satan's team. If so, congratulations are due. As targets, you've been counted worthy.

But practice a soldier's vigilance:

Beware enticing, get-it-quick, roles.
Beware rulish, play-it-safe preachers.
Beware wealthy, living-big leaders.
Beware families who pull you back...

Because Satan can work through them all. Understand what he is pursuing:

Your life? Sure, but Jesus won it back.
Your talent? Yes, to expand his team.

If that's not possible (no, it's not), then to scare you off your path: to keep you out of entertainment. That just isn't going to happen.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
