The Occult (Part 1)
Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.
2 Corinthians 2:11 (KJV)
Media is magnifying the occult, or is it the other way around?

True Blood, Vampire Diaries, Twilight, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Walking Dead, Teen Wolf, Supernatural, Charmed, Medium, Angel, and Ghost Whisperer are occult hits capturing millions of viewers. Vampires, werewolves, witches, psychics, and zombies are their stars.

Kids are enchanted early. Parents surrender to wizards, fairies, ghosts, and guides who become our children's babysitters and idols. Adolescent wizard-hero, Harry Potter, began a supernatural offensive at the end of the 20th century and won legions of followers. But as Harry's world grew darker, so did our own.

Along with best-selling books, consider toys like the Ouija Board (entry-level occult classic) or fight-for-your life video games like Doom. Occult objects rest in our homes, but they are not peaceful. They confuse both children and parents with 'helpful' purposes and 'good guy' qualities.

We cheer as occult heroes fight bad guys, travel through time, channel the dead, predict the future, read minds, cast spells, and love weak humans--all in attempts to 'save us.' Real-life occult stars include psychic-celebrities like John Edward and Sylvia Browne. We seek answers. They stand ready and seemingly able to provide them...

Along with daily horoscopes, tarot cards, local mediums, tea leaves--even fortune cookies, 'innocent' occult interest is socially sanctioned as a harmless pursuit for hope, guidance, or just-plain-fun. But the line between fun and evil dims dangerously.

Music videos like 'Born This Way' (77 million+ YouTube views), 'Judas' (88 million+) by Lady Gaga, and 'E.T.' (115 million+) by Katy Perry and Kanye West have mainlined Satanism. Even more, top singers talk openly about Satan--even 'selling their souls' for success.

Parental warning: The interview videos are disturbing. The music videos are grotesquely dark and sensual--though viewed by millions of children. Pray for God's protection; if you feel led by His Spirit, educate yourselves.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
