The Promised Land
You should listen and be careful to do it, that it may be well with you and that you may multiply greatly, just as the Lord, the God of your fathers, has promised you, in a land flowing with milk and honey.
Deuteronomy 6:3 (NAS)
For entertainers, Hollywood is the promised land. It is a land flowing with milk and honey, wine and fruit. It is a land flowing with dreams and dream makers. Their dreams become gigantic movies, and film actors become giant stars.

Some stars in this promised land become like idols who serve entertainment kings, and some entertainment kings act like gods who believe they create mighty works.

These kings aren't so different than the kings of the promised land that Joshua and the Jews faced upon crossing the Jordan. God's people went to battle against the reigning kings, and the kings lost.

But the final war for the promised land was won by Jesus. Actors, models, and talent for Christ walk into the promised land of entertainment under His flag. To the residing kings of media, they are goodwill ambassadors--talented emissaries on a mission of love.

Nevertheless, a spiritual war is raging. Although God's soldier-saints are ultimately safe, millions of unaware civilians are not. His talented troops must fight for the innocent through prayer, scripture, and performance.

Performance is their witness--shining His light, His truth, and His Spirit through the technology of media that the 'Father of lights' (James 1:17) has allowed to cover His earth.

But today's scripture contains a 'must do' for success; His performers must 'Keep all His statutes and His commandments' (Deuteronomy 6:2)--a tall order for imperfect saints.

But Jesus, 'The author and perfecter of faith' (Hebrews 12:2), simplified the rules, set the standard, and paid the price for His stars to succeed under His Name.

Therein, they must stay the course, follow their Leader, multiply greatly, and become God's directional stars on His walk of fame.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
