The Waiting Room
The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the person who seeks Him.
Lamentations 3:25 (NAS)
What's the busiest waiting room you've been in--a doctor's office or a government building? An open call for a big show? It's not uncommon for hidden cameras to monitor those who wait.

In reality, our entire earth is a waiting room. We are in preparation for the most glorious roles of our lives, and God is watching our every move while we wait. He's looking for stand up people who act right when they think the camera is off.

'For Your salvation I wait, O Lord' (Genesis 49:18).

'For evildoers will be cut off, but those who wait for the Lord, they will inherit the land' (Psalm 37:9).

'The Lord favors those who fear Him, those who wait for His lovingkindness' (Psalm 147:11).

'Those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary' (Isaiah 40:31).

The Lord promises many blessings to those who wait on Him. But why the wait?

We wait for Him because He waits for us: 'The Lord longs to be gracious to you, and therefore He waits on high to have compassion on you' (Isaiah 30:18). God waits for us to come home, to grow up, to get strong, and to bear fruit. He waits for us because He loves us. Can we do less than wait for Him? It's in the waiting that He transforms us.

Sadly, most of us don't know we're in God's waiting room. We get cranky and yell for service. We get mad and quit. We forget for Whom we wait and why. But make no mistake: this world is a prequel, to choose and prepare stars for the real life ahead--the Kingdom of God. 'For our citizenship is in Heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ' (Philippians 3:20).

Let us make the most of our time in the waiting room. We'll be called soon.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
