The Worst Sin
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Romans 3:23 (NKJV)
But we are all like an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags.
Isaiah 64:6 (NKJV)
We see opinions of the 'worst sin' on billboards across America. Hellfire is added as the consequence. Therefore, I believe we should list some sins from the Bible and think about them. A good starting place is the Ten Commandments (see Exodus 20:2-17).

This sin list is partial and paraphrased for the purpose of discussion.

1.Worshipping anything but God2.Making a 'thing' that we worship3.Speaking the Lord's Name without reverence4.Working on the Sabbath5.Dishonoring our parents6a.Murder6b.Hate (Jesus said it was the same as murder; see Matthew 5:21-22)7a.Adultery7b.Lust (Jesus said it was the same as adultery; see Matthew 5:27-28)8.Stealing9.Lying10.Wrongful desires

We are now adding 'six things the Lord hates, yes, seven are an abomination to Him' (Proverbs 6:17-19).

11. A proud look

12. A lying tongue (repeated by God for emphasis)

13. Shedding innocent blood

14. Wicked plans

15. Chasing evil

16. False witness/malicious gossip

17. Sowing discord in a group

Consider some of the sins Jesus denounced.

18. Self-righteousness (see Matthew 9:13)

19. Hypocrisy (see the entire chapter of Matthew 13)

20. Bad teaching

21. Bad leading

22. Forgetting justice, mercy, and faith

23. Extortion

24. Self-indulgence

25. Despising prophecy

Are there more sins? Many.

The conclusion? We all sin.

'There is none righteous, no, not one' (Romans 3:10). We are not qualified to judge others. 'There is one Lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. Who are you to judge another?' (James 4:12).

As for the worst sin? My worthless vote would be torn between pride and condemnatory behavior that misrepresents Jesus.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
