Tough Questions For Christian Performers (Part 1)
The Great Commission
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you.
Matthew 28:19-20 (NKJV)
Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.
Mark 16:15 (NKJV)
And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His Name to all nations.
Luke 24:47 (NKJV)
Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.
John 20:21 (NKJV)
The Great Commission of Jesus Christ requires travel. Crossing four Gospels He says, 'Go therefore and make disciples... Go into all the world and preach the good news... To all nations... As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.' Undeniably, we can't stay home.

If we stay home, we can't follow Him. If we don't follow Him, we can't be His disciples. 'And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me' (Matthew 10:38). 'If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me' (Luke 9:23).

So what is our cross? Some Bible scholars say 'cross' means 'trial' or 'affliction'. I believe taking up our 'cross daily' has a broader meaning. God intends more for His children than to suffer day after day until death. He clearly loves joy, 'For the Lord takes pleasure in His people' (Psalm 149:4).

Consider this definition: your 'cross' is your duty--unto death. It's your calling. It's your gift and your responsibility. It's the field to which you're assigned--the field to which your talent belongs. Your cross is your own starring row to hoe--rain or shine, winter or summer, night or day, hard or easy, long or short.

If you're a performer called to the mission field of entertainment, your talent may be in acting, modeling, singing, dancing, or comedy. You're a show-off and a born leader. You have the 'It Factor': a Holy Spirit sparkle that shows Itself to an audience waiting to be moved. Because you're a mover.

Tough question #1 for Christian performers is whether or not to follow the Great Commission of Jesus Christ. Whether or not to go into the mission field of entertainment: a field of temptation and bad behavior. God gives us free will, but didn't we give it back to Him when we surrendered? Is staying home really an option?

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
