Transformed! Like Ruth: The Choice
And she said, 'Look, your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and to her gods; return after your sister-in-law.' But Ruth said:
'Entreat me not to leave you,
Or to turn back from following after you;
For wherever you go, I will go;
And wherever you lodge, I will lodge;
Your people shall be my people,
And your God, my God.
Where you die, I will die,
And there will I be buried.
The Lord do so to me, and more also,
If anything but death parts you and me.'
Ruth 1:15-17 (NKJV)
These famous Words by Ruth move us. Without a doubt, they moved God. Timelessly, They stand as an unbending declaration of loyalty, love and purpose. No circumstance could crush Ruth's determination: not the death of her husband; not the departure from life as she knew it; not even the deliberate discouragement of her mentor, Naomi.
It was all a test: a very hard test to a very bright future. Ruth passed brilliantly.
When presented with an open door to a new life, she walked through it--refusing to turn back. Consequently, God opened His Heart to this foreigner from Moab. He gave Ruth a starring role in the greatest play earth will ever know: the birth of the Man named Jesus.
Consider these line-in-the-sand Words by the mouth of Moses: 'I call Heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live' (Deuteronomy 30:19).
Before Ruth, Moses knew choices of idol worship would come before God's people. In unprecedented abundance, these same choices come before us today. Media calls them options. Opt in for fun, fame and fortune. Opt in for popularity, position and possessions. Opt in for vampires, vixens and villains. It's all a test.
Actors, models and talent for Christ: Pass these tests with honor, and remember... every choice matters. Every decision you make is a step toward God or a step away from Him. No decision is small. No role is small. Some choices are bigger than others, like Ruth's choice to follow Naomi. It determined her destiny.
Even so, don't worry about them, because worry is a demon inviting another demon: indecision. And no decision (like burying a talent) is still a decision. You cannot abstain from life, so..
Read His Word.
Listen to godly counsel.
Listen to God more.
Choose life, that others may see your good choices--and perhaps, by your example, make the most important choice of all.
## Transformed! Like Ruth: The Choice (Part 3)
NOTE: This series is a republished edit of a 2014 series called, 'Lessons From Ruth.' In these devotions, you may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' I have not changed this designation. Because in a greater sense, every disciple of Christ acts for Christ, models Christ and stewards His talents, from which God expects a profit.
P.S. To read the other devotions in this series, please see the Transformed! Like Ruth series.
