Twelve Steps To Heaven (Part 3)
Step #3: Speak Truth
Lord, who may abide in Your Tabernacle?

Who may dwell in Your Holy Hill?

He who walks uprightly,

And works righteousness,

And speaks the truth in his heart;

Psalm 15:1-2 (NKJV)
And the Word became Flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only Begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 1:14 (NKJV)
If you abide in My Word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
John 8:31-32 (NKJV)
Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth.*
2 Timothy 2:15 (NKJV)
God, His Word and the Truth are One. They form a Trinity: Our Father is the 'God of truth' (Deuteronomy 32:4); His Son is 'The Way, the Truth, and the Life' (John 14:6)--and the Holy Ghost is 'The Spirit of truth' (John 15:26). Truth unites, lifts, reveals and succeeds. We cannot reach Heaven without it.

Therefore, God's elect must speak truth. It's an essential step on the narrow path to Heaven. You can't skip it, overlook it or walk around it. Consider the truth to be like 3rd base in a baseball game. You must walk on it to get home.

Consider the truth to be like the best read of the perfect Script. You must rehearse It to get the part. Consider the truth to be like GPS in a strange world. You must depend on It to be safe.

Because we're in the ninth inning of the game. We're in the final act of the show. We're in a time and place of darkness: 'For behold, darkness will cover the earth and deep darkness the peoples; But the Lord will rise upon you and His glory will appear upon you' (Isaiah 60:2).

If the Lord is the Truth (He is), then the Truth will rise upon you. In a nation of liars, your truthful performance (especially off-stage) will bring glory to you. A closer look reveals the Source of your glory.

At the same time, consider nine starters on the opposing team: white lies, half-truths, secrets, exaggeration, evasion, guile, misrepresentation, flattery and perjury. They're major league stars--inviting millions to follow them. Some of them seem like good guys. Many are household names.

But no lie is white. Even sweet-talking preachers can spin the truth and un-rightly divide the Word of God--leading us away from Jesus.*

Actors, models and talent for Christ, don't try out for the opposing team. They only seem to be winning. Because when this world series is all said and done, the truthful team will come out on top.

To Be Continued...

* Commentary on 2 Timothy 2:15, 'Rightly dividing the Word of truth:' 'One... who gives the true sense of Scripture, does not pervert and wrest It, and take from It, or add to It; who points out the truth in It, and shows unto men the way of salvation, and plainly and faithfully preaches the Gospel contained in It, without keeping back anything that is profitable, but declares the whole Counsel of God' (Gill's Exposition of the Bible).

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
