Valiant! Like David: Administration
So David reigned over all Israel; and David administered judgment and justice to all his people. Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the army; Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder; Zadok the son of Ahitub and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar were the priests; Seraiah was the scribe; Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over both the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David's sons were chief ministers.
2 Samuel 8:15-18 (NKJV)
And, according to the order of David his father, he appointed the divisions of the priests for their service, the Levites for their duties (to praise and serve before the priests) as the duty of each day required, and the gatekeepers by their divisions at each gate; for so David the man of God had commanded.
2 Chronicles 8:14 (NKJV)
Administration is 'the management and direction of a government, business or institution' (Random House Dictionary). Good administration is a gift. Israel needed it, and David gave it. For any team, forward movement requires united effort; diverse people sharing the same goal.
'There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God Who works all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all' (1 Corinthians 12:4-7).
God gave David a gift to see the gifts in others: to assign each person to the right job in the right place at the right time. The resulting benefits were personal, professional, national and spiritual. Israel became a super-power during David's administration.
But consider his journey: David rose from shepherding sheep to leading the nation of Israel. This promotion took over twenty years--because it was a big position, and David had a lot to learn.
Actors, models and talent for Christ: becoming stars for God is a big position, and you have a lot to learn. Like David, your destiny is to rise and shine: to lead others in the best path of all. But for most, the gift of administration is a gradual build.
It was for Moses.* It was for David--and even for Jesus. Our King's team grew from One to twelve to countless millions. But it took time: 'Let all things be done decently and in order' (1 Corinthians 14:40). So be patient and learn from every part you play.
Because the best administrators are the best servants.
'His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord' ' (Matthew 25:21).

NOTE: This series is a republished edit of a 2014 series called, Valiant Like David. In these devotions, you may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' I have not changed this designation. Because in a greater sense, every disciple of Christ acts for Christ, models Christ and stewards His talents, from which God expects a profit.
P.S. To read the other devotions in this series, please see the Valiant! Like David series.
