I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.
The greatest hope of King David was 'The Consolation of Israel' (Luke 2:25): the Messiah. God gave David visions of Jesus: 'They pierced My Hands and My Feet... They divide My garments among them, and for My clothing they cast lots' (Psalm 22:16,18).
God gave David hope for his immediate future: 'I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living' (Psalm 27:13); God gave David hope for the future of his family: 'I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood' (2 Samuel 7:12).
God gave David hope for the future of His nation: 'Moreover I will appoint a place for My people Israel' (2 Samuel 7:10). God gave David hope of eternal life: 'I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever' (Psalm 23:6); 'At Your Right Hand are pleasures forevermore' (Psalm 16:11).
Actors, models and talent for Christ: Psalm 110 prophesies the reign of Jesus. In Verse 3, it also prophesies your role: 'The priest-soldiers are as dew upon the earth... The King is going forth to conquest. But He goes not alone. Behind Him come His faithful followers, all pressing on with willing hearts and high courage' (MacLaren's Exposition on Psalm 110:3).*
So 'Plow in hope' (1 Corinthians 9:10); 'Rejoice in hope' (Romans 5:2); 'Rest in hope' (Psalm 16:9), and 'Wait for it patiently' (Romans 8:25)...
'Hope in God' (Psalm 42:11); 'Hope in Christ' (1 Corinthians 15:19); 'Hope in His mercy' (Psalm 147:11); 'Hope by grace' (2 Thessalonians 2:16); 'Hope continually' (Psalm 71:14); 'Hope without wavering' (Hebrews 10:23), and 'Hope until the end' (Hebrews 6:11)...
Because God has plans 'To give you a future and a hope' (Jeremiah 29:11); because 'Hope does not disappoint' (Romans 5:5); because 'The hope of the righteous will be gladness' (Proverbs 10:28).
'Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ' (1 Peter 1:13), and 'Always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you' (1 Peter 3:15).
'Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit' (Romans 15:13).
