Valiant! Like David (Part 11)
Loyalty and truth preserve the king, and he upholds his throne by righteousness.
Proverbs 20:28 (NASB)
Loyalty is like faith; it is proven when times are hard. Loyalty is like hope; it looks beyond the worst--for the best. Loyalty is like truth; it will be revealed. Loyalty is like eternity. It endures.
David was loyal. His most constant Companion was God. To our best knowledge, David only forgot Him twice, and he repented with great remorse.
David's loyalty showed early, when he tended his sheep--and fought 'Both the lion and the bear' (1 Samuel 17:36) to save them. David was loyal to his king. When Saul tried to kill him, David refused revenge: 'The Lord forbid that I should do this thing to my master, the Lord’s anointed, to stretch out my hand against him' (1 Samuel 24:6).
David was loyal to his first wife, Michal, although she married another. When offered the kingship of Israel, he said, 'Good! I will make a covenant with you, but... first bring Michal, Saul’s daughter' (2 Samuel 3:13).
David was loyal to his best friend's memory. To his surviving son, David said, 'I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan, your father’s sake, and will restore to you all the land of Saul your grandfather; and you shall eat bread at my table continually' (2 Samuel 9:7).
Actors, models and talent for Christ: be loyal! Be loyal to God first, because 'He is the One Who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you' (Deuteronomy 31:6). Be loyal to the family who raised you. Treat them well. 'If anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever' (1 Timothy 5:8).
Be loyal to your family in Christ: 'Whoever does the will of My Father in Heaven is My brother and sister and mother' (Matthew 12:50). Be loyal to your friends, because 'There is a friend who sticks closer than a brother' (Proverbs 18:24).
Be loyal to your agents and support team: all who helped you rise. Don't leave them for a better offer. Honor your commitments, because God does. Christians will be strengthened. Outsiders will be intrigued. Loyalty is a calling card for Jesus.
