Valiant! Like David (Part 28)
All these men of war, who could keep ranks, came to Hebron with a loyal heart, to make David king over all Israel; and all the rest of Israel were of one mind to make David king.
1 Chronicles 12:38 (NKJV)
Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and spoke, saying, 'Indeed we are your bone and your flesh. Also, in time past, when Saul was king over us, you were the one who led Israel out and brought them in; and the Lord said to you, 'You shall shepherd My people Israel, and be ruler over Israel.' ' Therefore all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron... And they anointed David king over Israel.
2 Samuel 5:1-3 (NKJV)
David became king of Judah when he was 30--and all of Israel when he was 37. But one splinter remained in the whole: Jerusalem, a fortified city under Canaanite control. 'Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion (that is, the City of David)' (2 Samuel 5:7), because God ordained a united nation.

David didn't win easy, but by God, he won big. The glory days of God's favored nation began. King David reigned in prosperity for 33 years, and his son, Solomon, reigned in greater prosperity and unparalleled peace for an additional 40 years...

Until greed and idolatry broke Israel down. 'They were unfaithful to the God of their fathers, and played the harlot after the gods of the peoples of the land' (1 Chronicles 5:25). Because 'If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand' (Mark 3:25).

Actors, models and talent for Christ: Is greed and idolatry breaking our nation down? Even parts of our church? Has the land of freedom become a land of bondage--one where we worship fakes, fads and gadgets? Don't buy into fool's gold. Refuse to worship at common altars.

By his unwavering devotion to God, David united a divided nation. Jesus calls you to do the same: 'That they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me' (John 17:21).*

Actors, models and talent for Christ: rise up to unite this divided land. By mouths closed to condemnation, by hearts dripping in love, others will drink and be saved: 'He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, 'From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water' ' (John 7:38).

'Now I exhort you, brethren, by the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all agree and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be made complete in the same Mind and in the same judgment' (1 Corinthians 1:10).

'There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, Who is over all and through all and in all' (Ephesians 4:4-6).

To Be Continued...

* I encourage you to read the final prayer of Jesus (before His arrest) in John 17:

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
