Now these are the last words of David...
'The Spirit of the Lord spoke by me,
And His Word was on my tongue.
The God of Israel said,
The Rock of Israel spoke to me:
'He who rules over men must be just,
Ruling in the fear of God.' ' *
Justice is the 'administration of law' (Collins English Dictionary). We work by man's law. We live by God's Law. God's Law gives special consideration to widows and strangers; to the fatherless, poor, humble and oppressed--and to His saints.
God hates partiality and loves mercy. 'Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy' (Matthew 5:7). 'For the Lord loves justice' (Psalm 37:28); 'All His Ways are justice' (Deuteronomy 32:4); 'Righteousness and justice are the foundation of His Throne' (Psalm 97:2).
'So David reigned over all Israel, and administered judgment and justice to all his people' (1 Chronicle 18:14).
Consider one famous adventure: Shortly before he was crowned, David and his band returned to Ziklag, their home away from home--only to find the town burned and their families taken captive. He and six hundred men went on a hot chase at a grueling pace.
But two hundred grew weary, so they rested with the gear. At the same time, David and the front runners defeated the enemy, rescued their families and took great plunder. The victors did not want to share this wealth with those left behind, but David did:
' 'My brethren, you shall not do so with what the Lord has given us... As his part is who goes down to the battle, so shall his part be who stays by the supplies; they shall share alike.' So it was, from that day forward; he made it a statute and an ordinance for Israel to this day' (1 Samuel 30:23-25).
Actors, models and talent for Christ: 'Listen to Me, My people; and give ear to Me, O My nation: For Law will proceed from Me, and I will make My justice rest as a light of the peoples. My righteousness is near, My salvation has gone forth' (Isaiah 51:4-5).
Dearest performers: You are God's Law in a lawless land, because you embody the King and His greatest Command: to love God and His people. By going forth into arts and entertainment, you not only carry good news, you are good news. You are accepting, merciful and non-judgmental.
You see what went wrong, and you know Who went right--to the Cross: the One Who came to love the troubled people you meet every day. God's justice washes over you and through you to bring life for those who need it most.
