Wild waves of the sea, casting up their own shame like foam; wandering stars.
Jude 1:13 (NAS)
AMTC is all about stars: family stars, community stars, church stars and national stars. The difference between actors, models and talent for Christ and those who are not is a big one; Christ-following stars don't get lost. They don't get lost in themselves, and they don't get lost in the world.
This glowing difference is a fundamental dividing point. It keeps godly stars humble and thankful. They are grounded in Him, but soaring to new heights in grace. After all, these talented performers have done nothing to earn their gifts or the fame that follows. They understand that even their own hard work, mixed with the right connections and opportunities, also comes straight from the Top.
We are saddened to see stars wander, especially young stars, apparently receiving the wrong direction from the wrong people. The list of lost teen idols is uncomfortably long, and the media following their trails is even longer. Add in Twitter and Facebook, and we have a generation of media star sightings.
How do we address the wanderings of media stars? Pray for them. Love them without condemnation--understanding that fame and fortune are curses without God. Pray for their fans, and as Jesus 'steadfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem,' we steadfastly set our faces toward Hollywood (Luke 9:51).
Duty calls. Wandering stars noted. Rising stars needed.
