Which Church Are You? (Part 1)
I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, and what you see, write in a book and send it to the seven churches which are in Asia: to Ephesus, to Smyrna, to Pergamos, to Thyatira, to Sardis, to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea.
Revelation 1:11 (NKJV)
Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last. I am He Who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death. Write the things which you have seen, and the things which are, and the things which will take place after this.
Revelation 1:17-19 (NKJV)
'Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near' (Revelation 1:3). The Apostle John wrote the Book of Revelation, and I write about its scriptures with fear and trembling.

I once asked my pastor to suggest a Revelation study guide. His response? 'The Book of Revelation.' In other words, he recommended that the Holy Spirit teach me directly what He wanted me to know. I recommend the same Teacher to each reader of this devotion.

Still, I feel compelled to write about the seven churches in Revelation 2 and 3. I believe they not only describe God's churches today, but they also describe us--because we are called to be priests.

'To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father' (Revelation 1:5-6). 'But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood' (1 Peter 2:9).

The New King James Version gives titles to these churches (and therefore to us as priests). They are: 1) The Loveless Church, 2) The Persecuted Church, 3) The Compromising Church, 4) The Corrupt Church, 5) The Dead Church, 6) The Faithful Church, and 7) The Lukewarm Church.

Which church are you? Which priest are you?

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
