Wise As Serpents (Part 2, Conclusion)
The Rise Of The Dove
That you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world.
Philippians 2:15 (NKJV)
While living as a Man, Jesus acted as a harmless carpenter, teacher, preacher, and healer. He became the most famous Man of His time--and all time.
In His sacrificial death as a Man upon a cross, He atoned for our sins and gave us His righteousness--so we could walk as children of God. But He kept His identity as Messiah, the Son of God, hidden to all but a select few until His death and resurrection.
In this controlled revelation, He was wiser than the serpent, Satan. Jesus outwitted the 'Ruler of this world' (John 12:31) in the ultimate undercover mission. Therein, the King of Truth defeated the king of lies. It was a humiliating defeat.
Yet Jesus did not stake immediate claim to His rightful throne as King of kings, because God 'Desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth' (1 Timothy 2:4). And most men didn't know the Truth. Most men don't know It today.
Enter stage right actors, models, and talent for Christ. Consider the communication technology and the World Wide Web that took over 2000 years to build.
Consider today's verse where you are instructed to 'Become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation' (Philippians 2:15). Surely, we are in the midst of that generation--and it's painful.
So, how do you shine as lights in this world, in the world of entertainment--while being as 'Wise as serpents'?
Do what Jesus did. Keep your identities as sold-out disciples of Christ quiet to all but a select few--for a time.
What few? Your inner circle: your family, your friends in Christ, your church, and your wise counselors.
Until what time? Until such a time as you rise in fame, like Esther as a star queen, or Tim Tebow as a star quarterback, or Sherrie Shepherd as a star actress, or Kylie Bisutti as a star model, or Jermaine Paul as a star singer. Until God puts you on the right platform: the one where you announce to the world the 'Reason for the hope that is in you' (1 Peter 3:15).
Because that time will surely come. The size and the location of the platform are up to God. But it will come. It will come when you have risen, because that's when it came for Jesus. And once you have risen to unassailable success, you will give all credit to God--because He is the reason for the rise.
