Young Leaders (Part 2)
O God, You have taught me from my youth; And to this day I declare Your wondrous works.
Psalm 71:17 (NKJV)
At that time Jesus answered and said, 'I thank You, Father, Lord of Heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes.'
Matthew 11:25 (NKJV)
Who are 'babes' but our young leaders? Since actors, models, and talent for Christ are a youth-led army of light, this devotional series focuses on Paul's letters to Timothy: a young leader.
'This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare' (1 Timothy 1:18). What are God's field orders?
1) Don't 'give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than godly edification' (1 Timothy 1:4). Could this 'idle talk' come from our own church, where some 'Desiring to be teachers of the law, understanding neither what they say nor the things which they affirm' (1 Timothy 1:7) become hypocrites--thereby harming the cause of Christ?
Kids have a 'real meter' that is fine-tuned by God. Their truth arrow turns away from hypocrisy faster than The Flash. Therein is revealed one of God's purposes in choosing the young: they keep their witness real. 'For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, Who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth' (1 Timothy 2:3-4).
Therefore, act in truth--especially off-stage.
2) Don't criticize 'kings' in Hollywood. Instead, pray for them and give thanks for them. 'Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence' (1 Timothy 2:1-2).
Hating Hollywood and criticizing wandering stars is considered to be S.O.P. for Christians. But Jesus says, 'I desire mercy and not sacrifice. For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance' (Matthew 9:13). Therefore, young leaders must act like Jesus and surprise Hollywood with smiling faces and open arms.
