Young Leaders (Part 5)
I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also. Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you.
2 Timothy 1:5-6 (NKJV)
Not all young leaders have the benefit of supportive parents. Looking at Paul's commendation of Timothy's mother and grandmother, his father is conspicuously absent.
Did his father condemn Timothy's calling? Surely the church itself faced persecution. Was Timothy too young for leadership? Would fear stop him? Chapter 1 of Second Timothy reveals a crisis of faith and confidence.
We continue in AMTC's Young Leader series from the Books of Timothy with Paul's instructions:
7) Do not fear: 'For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind' (2 Timothy 1:7). The entertainment industry can be intimidating, but how much harder would it be with a negative parent? What about others thinking you are 'just a kid'--not experienced enough to handle it?
If fear is a demon, the Holy Spirit has the power to send him running. God's young leaders carry His Spirit, plus God's guarantee of success: His love, and 'Love never fails' (1 Corinthians 13:8). It knocks out fear, foes, and feeling too young. Add to power and love the 'Mind of Christ' (1 Corinthians 2:16), and you become a triple threat.
God considers your age to be an asset--not a liability. So, get in agreement with your Manager and ignore the naysayers. Then...
8) Be loyal and keep going: 'Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus' (2 Timothy 1:13). 'Men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth' (1 Timothy 6:5) will seek to confuse you, tempt you, or stop you. 'From such withdraw yourself.'
'For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart' (Hebrews 12:3). 'You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ' (2 Timothy 2:3).
