Your Image (Part 1)
Then God said, 'Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness.'
Genesis 1:26 (NKJV)
He is the Image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
Colossians 1:15 (NKJV)
Without a doubt, God and Hollywood are in the image business. Looking good is important to them both. Leading men are usually handsome: 'Joseph was well-built and handsome' (Genesis 39:6); Moses was 'A beautiful child' (Exodus 2:2); Saul, David, Absalom, and Daniel are similarly described.

Leading ladies are usually beautiful: 'Sarai was a very beautiful woman' (Genesis 12:14); Rebekah 'Was very beautiful to behold' (Genesis 24:16); 'Rachel had a lovely figure and was beautiful' (Genesis 29:17). Ditto Abigail, Bathsheba, Tamar, and Esther. It sounds like a Hollywood casting.

As for the Son of God? Just hearing about Jesus will knock us over. 'That at the Name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth' (Philippians 2:10).* To see Him?

'Just as the Roman soldiers and temple police were preparing to arrest Jesus, a supernatural power was suddenly released that was so strong, it literally knocked an entire band of 300 to 600 soldiers backward and down on the ground! It was as if an invisible bomb had been detonated' (Dr. Linda Withrow on John 18:4-6).

Actors, models, and talent for Christ: you are an invisible bomb. You are a friendly explosion. You are the beautiful fireworks sent to sizzle in Tinsel Town. Like the Rock Star you follow, you are the 'Image of the invisible God'. You are His stand-ins. You are His face and His voice.

You have been cast in an epochal epic, and you have a role to play. 'For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son' (Romans 8:29). 'And as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man' (1 Corinthians 15:49).

Therefore, both for God and for man, our image must be seriously considered.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
