Your Image (Part 3)
Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.
1 Corinthians 9:24-27 (NKJV)
And in all matters of wisdom and understanding about which the king examined them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers who were in all his realm.
Daniel 1:20 (NKJV)
We live in a morally lawless world. Of end times, Jesus says, 'Lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold' (Matthew 24:12). He wasn't referring just to over-filled prisons, but also to over-filled people. Today's temptation choices are like shopping in a Super Wal-Mart. Many of us are buying everything we can.

Including look-good, taste-good foods that aren't good for us. Their designer? Satan. By joining the masses in witless consumption, our image is damaged. Consider Hollywood's roster of wandering stars: they are fit. They look great.

Actors, models, and talent for Christ: they are your competition, and this is a race you need to win.

Therefore, you need to look 'greater'. If you are out-of-shape or feel hopeless, remember your fitness Trainer. 'Because He Who is in you is greater than he who is in the world' (1 John 4:4).

Daniel and his friends were judged by the king to be 'Ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers who were in all his realm'. The realm of Hollywood has kings, too. They depend on a bunch of flashy stars. So be like Daniel. Be ten times better--certainly in actions, but also in image. Your Trainer will help you.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
